Inside Pacific Dawn
As soon as you step on board the Pacific Dawn it's impossible to escape that feel-good holiday feeling. The atmosphere is friendly, fun and welcoming, with attentive crew on hand to make sure you enjoy every moment at sea.
Thanks to an extensive refurbishment in March 2017, the public spaces and cabins have a fresh and contemporary feel. During this upgrade waterslides and are waterpark were added to the Pacific Dawn, as well as many other features.
Entertainment: things to do on Pacific Dawn
You'll find most traditional cruise activities onboard the Pacific Dawn, such as trivia, pool games and enrichment classes, however where this ship really stands out is in its action and adventure offerings.
The Edge outdoor adventure park was recently added and is home to fun features such as a flying fox, rock climbing/abseiling facilities, high ropes and much, much more. All of the activities at the park are designed to get your heart pumping while at the same time offering impressive views of the ocean - what a way to spend the day!
At nighttime things are no less fun, with production shows, live music and dance parties all adding to the ship's happy-go-lucky atmosphere. Relaxed, low-key activities are also available day and night, from chilling out by the pool to watching films or reading in the library.
Pacific Dawn food and restaurants
P&O is renowned for using fresh, local ingredients to create innovative, mouthwatering menus, and the restaurants on board the Pacific Dawn are no exception. Whether you're in the mood for a casual snack or fine dining, one thing is for certain; the food will be of a premium quality.
Home to a formal dining room, the pantry and several specialty restaurants, as well as a range of low-key lunch venues, there's no shortage of spots to delight your taste buds on the Pacific Dawn. With this much choice comes the challenge of deciding what to try first! Don't worry, the friendly staff are never far away with recommendations, and their excellent service makes your dining experience that much better.
Destinations: Pacific Dawn itineraries
The Pacific Dawn spends most of her time exploring destinations along Australia's East Coast from her home port of Brisbane. She also makes trips to the Pacific Islands and Papua New Guinea. The shore excursions available will of course depend on your chosen itinerary, but you can expect a good variety of activities to suit all interests. Some popular examples include a tour of Alotau Town in Papua New Guinea, snorkeling in Vanuatu and visiting Australia Zoo in Queensland.
Cabins on board the Pacific Dawn
Whether you are cruising with friends, family or on your own, there's a Pacific Dawn cabin or suite to suit your needs. Take your pick from one of 795 rooms, starting at modest inside cabins and going up to spacious suites.
All staterooms are tastefully decorated with blue colours and wooden finishings and come with individual air conditioning, ample storage space and a flat screen television. Entertainment
Pacific Dawn by day
From fast-paced action and adventure activities to sipping cocktails by the pool, there's something for everyone on board the Pacific Dawn. If staying active appeals, you'll find no shortage of fun at the Edge outdoor adventure park, complete with high ropes, zip lines and other adrenalin-pumping activities.
If you'd prefer to enjoy a low-key holiday, you'll love public spaces like the library and Aqua Spa. A selection of organised seminars and competitions are also available each day - be sure to check the Pacific Daily for more information (this useful schedule is delivered to your cabin each morning).
Pacific Dawn pools, spas and fitness facilities
There are two pools on board the Pacific Dawn. Both located on Deck 12, one is family-friendly while the other is adults-only. There are several jacuzzi's in this area, as well as the Lido Pool Bar, which serves delicious cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages. You'll also find plenty of space to relax with a good book - the area was given a makeover in early 2015, with new hammocks and furniture installed.
In 2017 Pacific Dawn installed the Waterpark where the Kids can play with interactive water features. Or embrace the fun with Waterslides found on Deck 14.
Relaxing by the pool is a great way to de-stress, but to take your holiday to the next level you'll want to make a visit to the Aqua Spa. Here you'll find a beauty salon, as well as several treatment rooms offering massages, facials and other pamper packages.
If keeping fit on board is important to you, the fitness centre is located near the spa and is equipped with modern cardio machines and free weights.
Pacific Dawn nightlife
Nighttime entertainment takes the fun, playful atmosphere on board the Pacific Dawn to a whole new level. Highlights included themed parties, movies and sports games on the big screen, spectacular production shows at the Marquee Theatre, dancing at the Dome nightclub and much more.
The themed nights are especially great fun, with guests obligingly participating by donning costumes. These nights vary from sailing to sailing, so be sure to consult your cruise schedule to see whether any are booked for your cruise.
Pacific Dawn for families
The P&O Kids Clubs make cruising fun for the whole family. Catering for children aged 2 to 17, these clubs are extremely well-organised and run by experienced youth staff.
Kids are separated into four different groups, each with age-appropriate activities to ensure everyone is well-entertained: Turtle Cove for ages 2 to 6, Shark Shack for ages 7 to 10, HQ for ages 11 to 14 and HQ+ for ages 15 to 17.
Tweens and teens tend to be relatively self-sufficient, happy to entertain themselves with video games and movies, while the younger ones participate in organised activities such as arts and crafts.
The kid's programmes begin after breakfast and run until 10.30pm each evening, with breaks for dinner time. After 10.30pm, group babysitting is available for a small charge.
I have enjoyed visiting as much of the world as possible over the years. Europe and the Mediterranean are personal favourites, but there is so much to see very close to our little Australasian corner of the globe- one of my top travel experiences was snorkeling with tropical fish and turtles in New Caledonia! Cruising is a fantastic way to see it all, and we hope to make booking a cruise easier for both first-timers and old salts. From ship tips to destination news and views, we will keep you up-to-date. Happy cruising!
